Bert Kruyt holds a BSc in Physics, and an MSc in energy science from Utrecht University, where he wrote his master’s thesis on Indicators for energy security. He has a broad working experience in the energy business, ranging from energy- and climate modelling at the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency and the Energy Research Centre of the Netherlands to consulting work for governments and industry while working for Ernst & Young.
In December 2014, Bert started his PhD at EPFL’s CRYOS laboratory on Renewable Energy Risk Management and Grid Optimization in the Swiss Alps. He will look into the optimal distribution of renewable energy sources with respect to output variability. Of special interest are wind and solar resources and their (combined) performance in an alpine environment, their complementarity to hydro production and grid stability.
